The police on Tuesday arrested an 80-year-old groom along with his accomplice for marrying an 11-year-old girl while another accused managed to flee.
According to details, Najeeb, 80, hailing from village Chak of Faisalabad was going to marry 11-year-old Kiran of Lahore paying a huge sum of money to the father of the teenage girl. The ceremony was being held at a house located in tehsil Shahkot of Sheikhupura.
The police, on a tip-off, raided the house and detained Najeeb and his relative Shabeer and recovered the innocent bride.
Muhammad Rafique, the father of bride, Nikkah Khawan and other accused managed to escape from the scene.
The police registered a case against the culprits under the Child Marriage Act and a started search for them.
