US committed to continue building bilateral ties with Pakistan

Acting US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan David D Pearce said his country was committed to continuing building its bilateral partnership with the new Pakistani government and the leadership elected by the voters.

Pearce, along with Special Assistant to the President and Coordinator for Afghanistan and Pakistan Lieutenant General (r) Douglas Lute, and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs Dr Peter Lavoy, was on a two-day visit to Pakistan from April 21-22.

The US delegation, during its stay, met Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani and Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Kayani.

During the meetings, they discussed ways in which the US and Pakistan could continue working together to advance the Afghan-led reconciliation process and contribute to a secure, stable, and prosperous future for the region.

Ambassador Pearce reiterated US support to Pakistan’s democratic process.

He said the US looked forward to timely, transparent, free, and fair elections in Pakistan on May 11.

“We are committed to continue building our bilateral partnership with the government and the leadership elected by the voters.”
