Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro on Monday claimed that the 10-party alliance in Sindh is comprised of allies of the late dictator General Zia-ul-Haq who had done nothing praiseworthy for the province and its people.
“These turncoat politicians had received bouquets from the late dictator and were party to the stolen elections of 1990 to ensure the defeat of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP),” he said while addressing public gatherings at different places in Larkana.
The provincial assembly speaker said that the nation knew that those politicians who have received money from various quarters, included Nawaz Sharif and Pir Pagara.
He said the conspiracy to push the PPP against the wall would not succeed as people of Sindh in particular, and Pakistan in general, were putting their weight behind the party.
He further said that those people who have blamed the PPP in the past for supporting waderas and Pirs, have currently gathered around a pir. He added that the vote of Sindh would not be caste for any Pir or Mir, but for the party of late Benazir Bhutto.
Khuhro said that the democratic system never suited the Sharif brothers as they were the products of military dictators, adding that those who had always strengthened the hands of military dictators could not deliver for the common people of the country.
He hoped that the PPP would defeat all anti-democratic forces in the forthcoming general elections with a big margin.
Commenting on the status of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief, Khuhro said that Nawaz had become the biggest electoral thief in the history of the country when he hijacked the 1990 elections.
Furthermore, he said the Sharifs had fled from the country after brokering a deal with a dictator out of fear of suffering mosquitoes’ bites in jail. “A dictator’s friend can never be a friend of the people,” he stressed.
Moreover, he said the apex court had favoured martial laws in the name of “Doctrine of Necessity” and had later apologized to the nation for their actions. He said the judiciary should now apologise every day for the sins it had committed, because one time apology was not enough in this case.
Hitting out at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, Khuhro said the PTI chief was a big supporter of Musharraf’s referendum and now he was talking about change, but PPP had always brought change during its rule to strengthen the culture of democracy in the country.
Meanwhile, he said general election would be held on time and the evil schemes of people with vested interests would be shattered before they could do any real damage to the PPP. He hoped that his party would be able to form the coming government with the support of its allies.
