Govt to provide foolproof security to election candidates: Nizami

Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Arif Nizami on Monday said that government would provide foolproof security to contesting candidates and take all possible measures to conduct elections in a peaceful atmosphere.

Talking to the media after attending a meeting in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), he said, “The aim of the meeting was to make arrangements to conduct election in peaceful atmosphere and to provide foolproof security to candidates as well as to the masses.”

The meeting was also attended by Interior Minister Malik Habib, Minister for Law and Justice Ahmer Bilal Sufi and Minister for Information Technology Sania Nishter.

The minister said the government would ensure security arrangements on the election day so people can cast their votes without any fear. He said another meeting would also be held on April 25 under the chairmanship of chief election commissioner with all the stakeholders to devise comprehensive security plan for upcoming elections. He said the meeting also discussed draft of ordinance to grant voting right to overseas Pakistani as per directive of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
