All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) on Sunday lodged a complaint for mistreatment being faced by former president and APML chief Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf, and said the Punjab government would be responsible for any untoward incident that might happen to the former army chief.
Addressing a news conference, an APML spokesman and party candidate contesting polls from the federal capital Dr Amjad accused the government for harsh treatment with the former military chief.
He said the treatment being accorded to Musharraf under sub-jail custody is harsher than that which is prevalent in Adiala Jail.
Amjad said Musharraf is not being permitted to meet his family, despite the fact that he was a former president and army chief.
He further said only two rooms had been allotted to Musharraf, adding that even his legal team is being barred from meeting him.
A specially prepared meal is being served to him, Amjad said, adding that “anyone could make the meal poisonous.”
He further stated that Musharraf is not permitted to use his cellular phone, internet, computer and other necessities, which has disconnected him from the outside world.
“Even telephone connections have been disconnected. The only link between Musharraf and the outside world is newspapers and magazines,” he added.
Amjad said the former president had worked in the best interests of the country and played a key role in the development of infrastructure and telecommunications.
The APML spokesman said a uniformed officer who had fought many wars for his homeland, could not be declared a “traitor”.
Amjad stressed Musharraf deserved a respectable treatment, which was his right.
