Nine groups were formed on the second day of the International Judicial Conference on Saturday to discuss various judicial issues at length and draw conclusions.
The groups discussed nine topics: the role of the judiciary in the developing world, the rule of law and international peace, terrorism and money laundering, public interest litigation: a tool to protect fundamental rights, the role of the judiciary in consumer protection, the legal and judicial education, alternate dispute resolution, parental child abduction and transnational jurisdiction, and cyber crimes.
The recommendations of the nine groups will be presented in the final session of the conference after which the Chief Justice of Pakistan will announce the declaration of the conference.
The three-day judicial moot is being attended by delegates from 21 countries including India, Iran, the United Kingdom, Egypt, Libya and Afghanistan. The chief justices of all the four provincial high courts and of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, members of the lower judiciary, members of various bar councils and large number of senior advocates are also participating in the conference.
Meanwhile, the judicial museum has also put on traditional items for display on the auspices of the conference. Various photographs of the previous chief justices, important historical decisions by the apex court are presented in the museum.
An antique car which had been driven by late Chief Justice of Pakistan AR Cornelius and was donated by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja caught attention of the delegates.
The concluding session of the conference will be held today.
