The Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) of Rawal Town is unable to control encroachers who are increasing with each passing day in the area.
With every free space encroached, motorists face difficulty in parking their vehicles in most commercial centres. This goes same for pedestrians who go to these market places.
Encroachment on both sides of roads is order of the day in Sadiqabad, Muslim Town, Raja Bazaar, Bohar Bazaar, Jinnah Road, Commercial Market, Trunk Bazaar, Dhoke Khabba, Dhoke Farman Ali, Buni Road, Jamia Masjid Road, Saidpur Road and Circular Road.
Encroachers are doing their business without any fear of the TMA. The residents of Buni, Jamia Masjid Road, Saidpur Road, Circular Road, Aladad Road, Murree Road and other areas have been voicing their concerns over the illegal occupation of roads. Encroachments not only choke traffic but also create security risks.
Residents of these areas said encroachments remained unchecked. They alleged that despite repeated complaints, the administration did not take steps, which has emboldened encroachers.
Ajmal, who resides near Circular Road, said motorcycle dealers and auto-workshop owners had occupied the road. “The road has become a parking lot for encroachers while fruit sellers have set up stalls on the walkways.”
Asif, a resident of Bani, said encroachments caused accidents. “Encroachers drop litter everywhere. We have lodged several complaints with the administration but to no avail,” he said, adding that the taxi drivers further contribute by parking their vehicles on the road.
“Encroachers have made it impossible to cross Jamia Masjid Road, Bani Chowk, Circular Road and Saidpur Road during rush hours,” Atif, a motorist, said. “Traffic wardens are unable to ensure the smooth flow of traffic due to encroachments”.
The residents of the affected areas urged the city administrators to remove encroachments from the roads for a smooth traffic flow.
