Beyghairat Brigade’s ‘Dhinak Dhinak’ goes viral on social media

Beyghairat Brigade on Saturday released an explosive new music video in a heated political climate – just weeks away from the election and two days after Musharraf’s arrest was ordered by the Islamabad High Court. The new song is called ‘Dhinak Dhinak’. The band had earlier shot to fame through their song/video ‘Aalu Anday’. Somewhat similar to what they did in their previous song, their new release includes hard-hitting satire aimed at Pakistan’s military establishment, which received considerable attention on social media. The timing of the release, claimed the band, is not coincidental. They said that while initially the song was written during the time NATO supply routes had been blocked, it was edited as time went on and as the political scenery changed culminating with Musharraf’s arrest. In Pakistan it is common to criticise politicians and leaders through songs and other media mediums but hitting out at the powerful military through mainstream pop culture is non-existent; which makes the band’s effort very bold, according to those who viewed and reviewed their release. The video ends with the message, “No need to like this video, we’ll be dead anyway!” This isn’t the first time that Beyghairat Brigade’s politics have gone viral. Last year, Aalu Anday also hit out at various players in Pakistan’s political landscape, from the chief justice to Ajmal Kasab to Nawaz Sharif to PTI, and even the military (though in a rather indirect way).
