Punjab Chief Minister Najam Sethi said on Friday said that he was personally monitoring the situation arising out of measles outbreak, and directed health authorities to make a take more effective measures.

He said all resources which were needed would be provided in order to safeguard children from measles and added that vaccination was highly essential to prevent children from measles.

The chief minister directed that the vaccination facility should be made available at all hospitals and medical centers. He said that the life of every child was precious and the caretaker government would effectively discharge its responsibilities in this regard. He informed that public awareness helpline 0800-99000 has been fully activated, from where citizens can acquire necessary information regarding preventive measures against measles. He said public awareness about measles is also being raised through mass media, while concrete steps are being taken to ensure vaccination of measles in affected areas.

Sethi said that no effort should be spared to provide foolproof medical care to measles affected children, besides ensuring provision of best medical facilities to them.

ANTI-MEASLES CAMPAIGN SOON:

Punjab Health Minister Saleema Hashmi said on Friday that a province wide campaign against measles would be launched soon.

Talking to journalists on Friday, Saleema Hashmi said the health ministry during its limited tenure would try to spare no efforts in awarding basic health facilities.

She said nothing could be said about the purchase of anti-measles vaccine.

However, she said concerns of donors would be removed during the upcoming donor’s conference.

Saleema Hashmi said vaccination through injection against various diseases was a successful programme during the past two decades.

The provincial health minister termed malnutrition a major reason behind the attack of epidemics on children as lack of balance diet decreases the defence system of the body.
