JI chief urges for APC improve security situation in elections

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Syed Munawar Hassan has urged the prime minister to call the all parties conference (APC) over the recent spate of terrorist attacks on political rallies in KHyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan.

Talking to a forum organised by APP, Hassan said joining the US led war on terror was the root cause of terrorism in the country. He said the JI was the only political party that had raised the slogan of “Go America Go”. He said the JI was the only choice the people had that could steer the country out of these challenges, adding that the JI would get rid of foreign loans and poverty if it came in power.

Answering to a question, Hassan said that seat adjustment was still possible with the Pakistan Muslim League-(Nawaz) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf.

Regarding his security, he said he was against such protocol as Allah is sufficient to protect him. “I travel in one car without any protocol and want to live a simple life as other people live,” he said.

Hassan said the Muslims were a peaceful people. He said Osama bin Laden was the greatest hero of the Muslims because he had struggled for the cause of the Muslims. He said terrorism had increased in the country because of taking part in the US-led war on terror and because of conducting military operations in various parts of the country. He, however, denied that the JI had any connections with militant groups. He said no such contion with terrorist organisations had ever been proved in any court.

The JI chief also said that the Awami National Party had miserably failed to deliver in the KP over the last five years. He said Pakistan needed to show determination like that of Iran and North Korea. He said Pakistan should not bow before the external pressures, including that the US is the enemy of the Muslim mummah. He said the country had become bankrupt because of taking loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank and international donors and by following their policies. Only an independent foreign policy and dependence on the country’s resources could make Pakistan financial grow stronger, he added.

Regarding the role of Jamiat Talaba-e-Islam (JTI) in educational institutions, Hassan said the JTI was protecting the ideology of Pakistan. He, however, said there was possibility of human error so strict accountability mechanism was in place in the party.
