Election campaign activities gain momentum in Islamabad and Rawalpindi as the twin cities are flooded with banners, stickers and portraits of leaders belonging to various political parties.
The portraits of candidates belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-(Nawaz), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan Peoples Party, Jamaat-e-Islami, Awami Muslim League and of those contesting independently can be seen everywhere in the twine cities. Banners and posters can be seen hung on electricity poles on the median of roads and trees or placed on walls in market places and residential areas.
Political banners are displayed on a large number from Mareer Chowk to Faizabad in Rawalipindi. Political party candidates have displayed their portraits with party flags in every locality, street and bazaar, including Raja Bazaar, Liaquat Bagh, Bara Bazaar, Jinnah Road, Sadiqabad, Dhoke Khabba, Tench Bhata, Dheri Hassanabad, Lalazar, Moti Bazaar, Satellite Town, Asghar Mall and Saidpur Road.
Supports of various political parties have also raised flags of their parties on their houses. Rickshaws, wagons, private buses and Suzuki pickups are also being used for displaying party banners and flags.
Sources in various parties have confirmed that workers on a daily wage have been hired to put up banners and flags on various locations. But the Rawal Town Municipal Administration is taking off such banners, posters and flags on a daily basis as they violate the code of conduct given by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
