The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has failed to install road lights on Islamabad Highway’s 12 kilometer patch from Koral Chowk to Rawat despite the lapse of several years.
Residents of the residential localities in the areas including Bahria Town, PWD Society, Police Foundation Scheme, Media Town, Naval Anchorage, Pakistan Town, Judicial Town and Korang Town expressed annoyance over lack of street lights on the road. They said road accidents and crimes at night were common on the road due to the darkness, but the concerned officials of the CDA were not paying any heed to the troubles of the citizens.
The residents said that the current chairman had made tall claims of resolving the problems of the residents of the federal capital but he too was following the policy of former chairmen.
It is pertinent to mention here that road lights were installed on the road in 2001 but were removed in 2008 to replace them with bigger ones. The civic authority also demanded tenders for the purpose but later cancelled them, leaving the road in darkness.
Residents demanded CDA Chairman Syed Tahir Shahbaz to immediately order reinstallation of the road lights and take strict departmental action against the civic body officials responsible for the delay in the project
