Musharraf must be tried for treason: Senate

A resolution calling for the trial of former president Pervez Musharraf for treason under Article 6 of the Constitution was unanimously passed in the Senate on Friday.

Members of the Senate including Ishaq Dar and Raza Rabbani addressed journalists following the session.

Rabbani, while commenting on Musharraf’s imprisonment in his farmhouse, said the retired general was a self-proclaimed president and should not be given preferential treatment.

“We all are equal and we all should be treated equally,” he said.

Earlier on April 18, the Islamabad High Court issued arrest order for Musharraf.

Howeve, he fled the court premises without getting arrested. He was taken to his residence in Chak Shahzad by his security convoy.

Today, Musharraf surrendered to the authorities and his farmhouse was declared a sub-jail. The court also granted two-day transit remand of the former president.
