A resolution calling for the trial of former president Pervez Musharraf for treason under Article 6 of the Constitution was unanimously passed in the Senate on Friday.

Members of the Senate including Ishaq Dar and Raza Rabbani addressed journalists following the session.

Rabbani, while commenting on Musharraf’s imprisonment in his farmhouse, said the retired general was a self-proclaimed president and should not be given preferential treatment.

“We all are equal and we all should be treated equally,” he said.

Earlier on April 18, the Islamabad High Court issued arrest order for Musharraf.

Howeve, he fled the court premises without getting arrested. He was taken to his residence in Chak Shahzad by his security convoy.

Today, Musharraf surrendered to the authorities and his farmhouse was declared a sub-jail. The court also granted two-day transit remand of the former president.

  1. why Rtd.Gen.Musharraf be tried for treason as Senate advised. If Senate is so sincere,it must decide and declare punishment and life ban on political party which caused for FALL OF DACCA AND SENATE MUST URGE FOR DECLARATION FOR PUBLIC THE REPORT OF rTD.JUSTICE hAMOOD UR rEHMAN REPORT.

  2. "unanimously passed"? And how many of these senators were his cheerleaders when he was doing treason, making them his aiders and abetters? So I say TRY THEM ALL FOR TREASON like Mushy for they are as guilty!!!!!

  3. Rabbani seems very upset about his house arrest – all should be treated equally he says. Has he forgotten the years of luxury Zardari lived in in his so called prison?

  4. PMLQ.MQM AND CHAUDHRIES MUST BE QUESTIONED AS THEY EQUALLY SHARED AND WERE YES MEN.LET THEM TRY TOO.

  5. @ Hasi
Very true, MQM had to abstain, since they were not only rewarded by the accused General but their people were trained as well secretly.

  6. It is okay to try Musharraf for treason. However, what about:
    – The judges who validated his coup?
    – Nawaz Sharif, who tried to deny landing of his plane which eventually triggered all this fiasco?

To me, this is a one-sided action.

  7. Let us take a deep breath and think carefully. A former head of state returns back to his country to contest an election—his basic human right. He is disqualified promptly and hunted down like an animal. I i was brought to think that a man was innocent until proved otherwise but here Musharraf is already persumed guilty by a kangroo Court. Give him a chance to contest the elections. Why are we so scared of him that we want to lock him up. It is a pure vandetta against him.

  8. Hark. came here from google search about news on Mushy.

I hadth the impression all pakistanis want to hang him for …….. Giving us a better economy, an open media, and for trying to repair the Corrupt Law and Justice system.

never thought that there were some Pakis who actually understand what is going on
