The District Election Commission (DEC) on Thursday started a 10-day training programme for about 18,000 polling staff who will be deployed at 2,150 polling stations on the day of elections.

District Election Commissioner Zahid Subhani told APP that the training includes presiding officers, assistant presiding officers and support staff so that fair and transparent elections could be ensured in the district. He said the training would conclude on April 27 and training of the trainers had already been completed.

Subhani said five percent of those being trained would be reserved to meet any emergency on the day of election.

The DEC will set up 2,150 polling stations out of which 634 are for males, 611 for females and 905 are for both. The number of registered voters in the district is 2,645,603.
