The dictator who couldn't face justice

Former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf on Thursday evaded arrest after his bail was cancelled by Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the Islamabad High Court in the judges detention case.

Police tried to arrest the former military ruler after the order for cancellation of bail, but he escaped, escorted by his personal security, fleeing in his bullet-proof black four-wheeler.

Musharraf had arrived at the IHC for the hearing and a large contingent of police and Rangers personnel was stationed at the court’s premises for security purposes. The move comes as a twist of fate for the former general who is being tried for illegally detaining the superior judiciary, after he announced a state of emergency in the country on November 3, 2007.

Later in the day, Musharraf’s lawyers announced that they would appeal the Islamabad High Court’s order of cancellation of his bail in the Supreme Court today before 3pm, according to reports.

Furthermore, the court noted that Musharraf running from the scene was a crime in itself and it is believed that the former president would issued a contempt of court notice.

Reacting to Musharraf’s escape, caretaker Information Minister Arif Nizami announced that the former dictated would be arrested as per the court order.

The former dictator is presently staying at his farmhouse in Chak Shehzad, along with his legal team. Local police has been deployed in the area. Meanwhile, all roads leading to Chak Shehazad have been blocked, making it difficult for ordinary commuters to get around.

Earlier last week, the former military ruler was granted a six-day interim bail after he surrendered before the court in the said case in which he had been declared a proclaimed offender.

The case is based on an FIR against the retired general registered in August 11, 2009 on the complaint of Chaudhry Mohammad Aslam Ghumman advocate.

Furthermore, the bad day continued for the retired general when an election tribunal rejected his appeal on the dismissal of his nomination papers. According to details, Sindh High Court upheld the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and refrained Musharraf from contesting in the upcoming elections from the NA-250 constituency.

  2. Shame on those who sprang Mush from the premises of the court that ordered his arrest. Is there a different law for the common man and for a usurper? Mush was an absconder in BB’s murder case and violator of constitution. He should be made an example by punishing him for his crimes. However, it appears he would be spirited out of the country by the powers that be. Tragic indeed.

  3. What judiciary???? lol 🙂 What laws does Pakistan have? Where? what have they been doing all this time post Musharraf regime? as they say in Urdu “jhak mar rahy thy kia?”

    • Then you better start with the entire PPP and PML-N party, then and only then I'll feel good about it otherwise its the judges taking it personal and going after him, nothing more, nothing less.Lets be fair across the board then.

  5. What bloody mindedness of the Judiciary. Having shown the door by the government, these are third degree tactics for pure harrassment, belitttling and degradation. On what grounds has his bail once allowed and extended by this very court, cancelled? Especially when he is presenring himself in person in court despite the threats to him. Black coated and robed rascals. Lets see of the PT has the guts to show this comment.

  6. I still remember the day when 50 people killed in Karachi when CJ went there, and Musharraf with his PMLQ and MQM allies showing his fists to public saying "Aj karachi mn awaam ne apni taaqat dikhai ha"…. this is fate…. once u tried to act as Godfather and today u r Commando is on the run.

  7. The Honorable Supreme Court is requested to amend the laws for DISALLOW THE SO-CALLED TITTLE OF SHAHEED TO THE CULPRIT/CONVICTED BY LAWS THE DICTATORS OFTHESE HUMAN ENEMIES,SO THAT NO POLITICAL PARTY DARES TO AWARD THESE DICTATORS THE TITTLE OF SHAHEED AND THESE POLITICAL PARTIES MUST BE BANNED FOR PLEASING THEIR MASTERS FOR OTHER`S SAKES.

  8. 9. Just a distraction tactic to divert attention from 20 hours a day load shedding. All and sundry should focus on poor people's needs and issues.
    Long live Pakistan.

  10. Dear Musharraf,

Is it not shame on you. you run away like a coward. you wanted the whole world to believe that you are a commando . you are not . you should pay for the death of Indian and pakistani soldiers and officers. you harassed the chief justice, lawyers, politicians. you made a back door entry. you refused to salute our great gentlemen politician VAJPAI . Now no one will salute you for ever.

  11. Faraar? Come off it already. The man left in full protocol. Routes were blocked for his movement just like any VVIP. Who are we kidding?

  12. As long as Chaudhry is the top man in judiciary, expect no justice. Musharraf must face the courts if there are cases against him. But at the same time, it needs to be ensured that there will be no kangaroo trials. Unfortunately, we cannot expect any good from the present judiciary. Judges must first of all kick out the corrupt in their lot and must first try all judges who took oath under any PCO irrespective of the fact whether or not their acts were indemnified by the Parliament. If 18th Amendment can be sent back to Parliament for reconsideration, the Indemnification Acts can be nullified by the same courts with a stroke of pen. Judges must stop playing games and making mockery of the Constitution and Law. The Sardar Dual PCO must be tried under Article 6 before any other person. People sitting on the seats of ADL have the highest moral responsibility to be straightforward, upright, honest, followers of Constitution, righteous and sagacious. We have seen the performance of Returning Officers working under the daily guidance of their Sardar.

  13. These courts are only serving their personal grudges and they don't care about the real issues for this country is going through. Even our nation is also sleeping with pills like of above drama. Very disappointing situation…

  17. Once again Courts are only playing with media for headlines! absolutely nothing else! If they couldnt punish a small time crook hussain Haqqani, Musharraf will be too hard to bite for them. As they are after headlines not actually delivering any justice.

If they are real deal then Raja Rental, Zardari , Gillanis and Sharifs would have also been behind bars!

So wait how this will turn into nothing by fooling people for few days!
