The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday ordered the withdrawal of additional unprecedented perks and privileges to former home minister Rehman Malik, his predecessors and to former prime ministers Raja Pervez Ashraf and Yousuf Raza Gilani.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, issued the ruling on the case pertaining to extraordinary security protocols and perks and privileges for prime ministers Ashraf and Gilani.
During the hearing, the court ruled that the state could provide additional security to certain individuals but providing lifetime security was not possible.
The court added that it was not possible to provide security to anybody and everybody, upon which Interior Secretary Siddiq Akbar informed the court that the notification for security had been issued and withdrawn on the same day.
The bench observed that it was the duty of the state to provide security to every citizen, adding that civil servants were not required to follow unlawful orders.
