Rejection of nomination papers: Musharraf to drag ROs to Supreme Court

Having apparently been ousted from the election race, All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) chief and former president Pervez Musharraf has decided to wage a legal battle against the returning officers (ROs) of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for rejecting his nomination papers in all constituencies.

The APML chief had filed nomination papers from NA-32 Chitral, NA-48 Islamabad-I, NA-139 Kasur-II and NA 250-Karachi.

The ROs from all four constituencies rejected his nomination papers over the same objection that was that he had subverted the constitution and had sacked the top judiciary of the country in 2007, and there did not fulfil the criteria of articles 62 and 63.

The APML chief filed an appeal against the rejection of his nomination papers for NA 250 Karachi in the Sindh High Court (SHC) Election Tribunal but the court rejected his appeal. Musharraf has now decided to move the SC.

“The cases against the party chief are pending before courts and he is yet to be announced a culprit,” APML Information Secretary Muhammad Ali Jaffery told Pakistan Today on Wednesday.

“APML chief Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf has decided to file an appeal in the SC against the rejection of his nomination papers by the ROs,” Jaffery verified.

He asked how the ROs could reject the nomination of the party chief on allegations which had not been confirmed so far.

  1. There is no reason to stop former President to take part in election. It is his right.

  2. It couldn't be more obvious that the SC judges are trying to keep Musharraf out of race. The judges should be tried for high treason for validating his rule in 1999 in the first place. I wonder why they don't want to bring up how Musharaff came to power in the first place and who allowed him to stay in power? This SC is a joke (a bad one at that).

  3. My country is failing in every aspect maily due to biased and corrupt judciary. Present judges are clearly supporting corrupt Sharifs.

  4. The whole country is corrupt, Musharraf alone cannot do anything. They speak of high treason to the country when Musharraf's goal has always been to save Pakistan. High treason against who? Corrupt leaders and judiciary?
