A full bench of the Lahore High Court on Thursday provisionally allowed former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to contest elections from NA-51.

The bench, comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to include Ashraf’s name in the list of valid candidates. However, it linked the decision with the final outcome of the petition.

The LHC also issued notices to the ECP and objector, Irfan Aziz, to appear on April 22 and also sought replies.

The bench passed the orders on a petition filed by Ashraf challenging the rejection of his nomination papers by a returning officer for NA-51 and dismissal of his appeal by an election tribunal.

  1. Ashraf is acused of something. And so is Musharraf. Why is Ashraf allowed to run in elections and Musharraf is not? The one eyed bandit of SC has a personal vandetta against Musharraf.
