SC directs Information Ministry to authenticate secret funds’ documents

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday asked the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to authenticate the documents presented before the court for the utilisation of secret funds by the ministry.

The directions were issued by a two-judge bench comprising Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain when it resumed hearing in identical petitions about the formation of a media accountability commission.

During the course of proceeding, two files containing record of the utilisation of secret funds were presented before the bench by the ministry.

The court directed the counsel for the Information Ministry, Raja Amir Abass, to get attestation of all record about the secret funds utilisation from the ministry.

Justice Jawwad remarked that the court orders were clear in the case, as it asked the ministry to submit all record in the court, adding that it was up to the court to decide whether the ministry could claim that privilege after reviewing the record about utilisation of funds.

The court later adjourned hearing until April 22.
