Aftershock jolt parts of Balochistan again

An aftershock of magnitude six on Richter scale jolted parts of Balochistan on Wednesday morning creating fright and panic among the people.

According to details, an earthquake hit the Mashkel Tehsil of Washuk district of Balochistan located on the Pak-Iran border. The tremor centered in Mashkil and nearby areas, with the main effect felt in Dalbandin, Nau Kundi, Noshki and other parts of the provincial capital.

A private TV channel quoted geographical experts saying that the quake was 80 kilometers deep inside earth crust.

Rescue teams faced difficulty in the affected areas due to the massive destruction.

It may be recalled that thirty-four people were killed and scores others were injured as powerful earthquake measuring 7.9 on Richter scale had hit Mashkel Tehsil at the Pak-Iran border on Tuesday afternoon. Strong tremors were felt in different parts of Pakistan, Iran, India and the Gulf countries.

According to officials of the seismic centre, the Tuesday’s earthquake was amongst the top three major earthquakes in the area. The magnitude-wise deadliest earthquake hit the area in 1905 which was measured 8 on the Richter scale. The earthquake of May 1935 in which about 30,000 people perished, was recorded at 7.5 on the Richter scale.
