The head of a prestigious scholarship fund, set up by the UN corps of correspondents in 1962 to honour the memory of late Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold, Monday congratulated Arif Nizami, Pakistan’s minister for information and broadcasting, on his appointment to the high post.
Nizami, then a correspondent of Nawai Waqt, covered the 27th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York when the Dag Hammarskjold Fund for Journalists selected him for the three-month assignment on its scholarship programme.
“On behalf of the board of directors of the Dag Hammarskjold Fund for Journalists (formerly Memorial Scholarship Fund for Journalists), I extend heartfelt congratulations on your appointment to the post of Minister for Information and Broadcasting for the caretaker Pakistan cabinet,” Evelyn Leopold, the fund’s chairperson said in a message to Arif Nizami.
