Former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf, who had returned to Pakistan after years of self-imposed exile to contest the May 11 polls, has been thrown out of the election race.

The former military strongman’s nomination papers were rejected on Tuesday from NA-32 Chitral, after him being earlier disqualified from three other constituencies. Appeals against the acceptance of Pervez Musharraf’s nomination papers for NA-32 (Chitral) were approved by the Election Tribunal in Peshawar.

Musharraf’s lawyer said they would contest the decision in a high court.

Earlier in the day, an election tribunal had decided against an appeal filed by Musharraf challenging the returning officer’s rejection of his nomination papers for NA-48 (Islamabad-I).

The returning officer had rejected Musharraf’s nomination after objections, saying the retired general had subverted the constitution as the army chief and had illegally placed judges under house arrest.

Musharraf’s appeal for NA-139 (Kasur-II) was also rejected by an election tribunal in Lahore. The tribunal said the former president had abrogated the constitution thrice and therefore, did not qualify to contest the coming general election.

An election tribunal in Rawalpindi also rejected Musharraf’s nomination papers on Tuesday.

The nomination papers of Pervez Musharraf for NA-250 (Karachi) have already been rejected.

  1. Nothing surprising. All along this outcome was known even to the most stupid of people, given Musharraf's misdeeds during his tenure. Only this idiot (Musharraf) did not foresee this situation.

  2. Fair and painful decision, but a great lesson for Pakistan that no politicians are sincere with the head of state. If Musharaf is rejected all his ex-ministere,advisers and big dignities who supported him during his black rule must also be disqualified.

  3. If Musharaf is disqualified for 2013 election.then PML Q AND OTHER lota parties must be banned .

  4. Disqualification of former president Pervaiz Musharaf shows that there is not space for the honest and respectful pakistanies and this is a country of the looter

    • If Musharaff is honest then Sultanaa Dakoo was a saint. Musharraf, toghether with Shaukat was going to sell the Steel Mill for Peanuts. At that time it was revealed by the Steel Mill MD (also a General) that the raw materiaal in the Mill was worth more than the sale price. Both Aziz and Musharraf had a cut in the deal. CJ blocked that deal which infurriated the power drunk general. Remember, a corrupt judge is the most precious possession of a dictator. Had CJ been corrupt, he would be in the pocket of Mussh.

      • If Musharraf's rule was not validated by the Supreme Court, he would not have any legitimacy in 1999. People have accused him of many things but no one has accused him of corruption. His mistake was that he sorrounded himself with back stabbing corrupt politicians. Instead of attcking him personally, people should compare his era to any other era in Pakistan. Pakistan was better off under him than under any other ruler in its history.
