NA-48 PML-N contestant Anjum Aqeel faces objections

Independent candidate Zia Gillani, contesting elections from NA-48, submitted his objections against his contender Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Anjum Aqeel Khan with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday.

Gillani questioned Aqeel being a billionaire after starting his job as a teacher on basic pay scale 7. He requested the ECP to declare Aqeel ineligible for the polls on the grounds of alleged corruption, violence and frauds. He informed the ECP that Aqeel had been accused in the National Police Foundation scam which worth Rs 5.8 billion. He stated that Aqeel had admitted his involvement during the trial in front of the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. He said Aqeel had assured the CJP that he would return the looted money.

Talking to Pakistan Today, Gillani said that it did not matter whether Aqeel returned the money or not but it really mattered that he had confessed his involvement in the scam before the apex court.

Gillani in his objections also questioned the completion of Khudadad Heights, which was supposed to be completed by 2006 but was still incomplete because of Aqeel’s involvement in it. He also raised the objection that a college professor had been beaten by Aqeel. It is pertinent to mention here that PML-N has two covering candidates – Chaudhry Ashraf Gujar and Adnan Kiyani – in the same constituency.
