Four soldiers killed, nine injured in continued clash with militants

In a fierce clash between security forces and militants, four soldiers died and nine were injured in separate incidents.

According to details, a blast on a security forces convoy protecting the Frontier Works Organizations’ (FWO) staff in Saidgai area of North Waziristan Agency left at least four security personnel dead and five others injured.

Official said that the security forces’ vehicles were targeted near Dorduni area of Saidgai in Ghulam Khan Tehsil of North Waziristan Agency with a road side Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

“Four soldiers have died. The exact number of injuries are not confirmed, but there are injured personnel who are being shifted to the hospital,” said a police official requesting not to be named.

Earlier, sources said that the blast was an intended case of suicide bombing but later military officials confirmed that it was a road side bombing aimed at targeting the security convoy on guard with the FWO, who are busy in development work in the area.

Furthermore, five security personnel were injured in clashes between security forces and militants in the Akka Khel area of Bara in Khyber Agency. Security forces also defused five Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by militants to target them.

Official sources said that militants attacked security forces at about 1:30 am Tuesday morning which was then repulsed.

At least five security personnel were injured during the clashes.

Regarding the militants’ casualties, FC spokesman Major Fazl said that the exact number was not known.

Officials also confirmed that security forces had defused at least five roadside IEDs in the Akka Khel area which were planted to target them.
