PPP will double BISP stipend after winning elections: Bilawal

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto has said the PPP will sweep the upcoming general elections with the support of the people of Pakistan to form the next government once again to further take forward the country in the comity of nations in accordance with the vision of Benazir Bhutto and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

The PPP chairman said after returning to power, the PPP would expand the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) to complete its second phase during next five years.

He announced that after winning the elections, the PPP government would double the monthly stipend amount from Rs 1,000 per month to Rs 2,000 which was being paid to millions of the downtrodden families across Pakistan under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

Bilawal said under the second phase of the BISP, more local and international institutions including banks will be taken on board as the partners and scope of this programme will be widened with introducing more income support schemes for the social and economic uplift of the common man.

He added that Waseela-e-Haq, Waseela-e-Rozgar, Waseela-e-Taaleem initiatives are the part of BISPs long-term strategy to help the poorest of the poor in the country.

Bilawal said the 18th Amendment and the restoration of the unanimously adopted 1973 constitution was also one of the PPP government’s landmark achievements which had won the hearts of the people.

Bilawal said his mother had laid down her life for the cause of democracy and for the people of Pakistan and the PPP would continue to make sacrifices to preserve democracy and for the betterment of the people.

He said the government successfully completed its five-year term under the courageous leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and expressed hope that the party would win the 2013 polls with a thumping majority.

Bilawal said Benazir always stood like a rock in the face of successive dictatorships and went to the extent of laying down her life for the cause of democracy.

“The PPP will continue to serve the downtrodden sections of the society as had been the case in the past and will never leave them in the lurch.”

He also praised Zardari for surrendering his powers and authority to the elected parliament which further strengthened democracy in the country.
