Concentrate on cricket, Ijaz Butt tells Afridi

Former chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board Ijaz Butt has advised Shahid Afridi to concentrate on improving his batting and bowling skills to keep his place in the national side instead of criticising him publicly.

Last week Afridi said during Butt’s tenure Pakistan was hit by match-fixing scandals and that he was removed as ODI captain despite Pakistan making the semi-final of the 2011 World Cup.

In a letter to the player, Butt says, “playing members should not make comments publicly” and should only comment once retired.

Butt also says he does not think Pakistan’s Twenty20 captain Mohammad Hafeez should be made skipper in any format of the game, saying, “he is a very good all-rounder and can prove an asset to Pakistan cricket if he concentrates only on his cricketing activities.”
