Abbas Town mastermind killed in police shoot-out

Aslam Mehsud, the alleged mastermind behind the Abbas Town tragedy, has been killed in a police shoot-out in Surjani town on Sunday, which came in the wake of his tip-off to the police.

According to local media reports, CID police conducted a raid in the the Surjani town area of Karachi following Aslam’s tip-off, whereby a huge cache of weapons and ammunition along with an explosives-laden car were seized. The militants exchanged fire with the police which left  two policemen injured, while Aslam succumbed to his wounds.

SSP Chaudhry Aslam told media that four tt pistols and a kalashnikov were recovered from the militants, adding that the suspects had planned to target the residence of political party leaders and other important buildings in the area, including a hospital. The police officials also claimed to have arrested a suspect from the area.

The Governor of Sindh, Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan has announced a reward of Rs 2 million for the CID team for carrying out a successful operation.

Operation in Kunwari colony

 

 

Rangers personnel conducted an operation in Kunwari colony early on Sunday.

The entire area was cordoned off with all entry and exit point blocked, as over 800 rangers conducted house-to-house searched using sniffer dogs. The operation lasted three hours.

According to a Rangers spokesperson, six suspects were taken into custody who were shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation. The spokesman added that 21 weapons of different kinds were also recovered from the arrested suspects.
