Back in the ’90s, Govinda was nothing short of a superstar. However, after a string of flops in the 2000s, he fell off the map. Amid several forgettable appearances, he had one major film to his credit: Partner (2007), with Salman Khan. Since then, he has had 11 releases. But barring Life Partner (2010) and some critical acclaim as a forest department official in Mani Ratnam’s Raavan (2010), there’s been little worth writing about. Now, with the actor desperately in need of a good project, the man coming to his rescue again seems to be Salman. On April 10, the two were spotted at the screening of director Mahesh Manjrekar’s new Marathi film, Aajcha Divas Majha, at Ketnav Theatre in Bandra. It made us curious. And on looking into it, we found out that Salman has apparently agreed to star in and produce a film with Govinda. “Salman is eager to take his production house forward after Chillar Party (2011). Mahesh has discussed a project with Salman and Govinda,” says an insider. A couple of years ago, Mahesh had announced the Hindi remake of his Marathi directorial venture, Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho (2010). He had apparently offered Govinda the lead role then, with Salman Khan Being Human Productions House (SKBH) on board. Govinda is believed to have turned down the offer as he did not like the concept.
