PM reviews Ministry of Communication projects

A high level meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s House this afternoon to review the projects initiated by the Ministry of Communication for the construction of highways and roads in the country.

The meeting was attended by Communication Minister Mr. Asad Ullah Mandokhel, National Highway Authority chairman, senior officials of Prime Minister’s Secretariat, ministries of Planning and Finance.

The Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Communication to prioritize the ongoing projects and make an effort to wrap up those which are near completion. He was informed that the Ministry is presently carrying out work on 79 projects of which 12 are related to Balochistan. Balochistan had a network of 4565 Kms. of road out of the total road network of 12000 Kms. in the country which constituted 37.65% of the network in the country.

The Prime Minister was also briefed about the progress of projects initiated in Balochistan to connect Gwader Port with the rest of the country. He was informed that the US government had agreed to provide 90 million dollars to finance the Quetta-Chamman road. The Prime Minister directed that work on the roads connecting Gwader with the rest of the country be prioritized so that its benefits can be reaped by the rest of the country.

The Minister Communication assured the Prime Minister that his direction would be implemented in letter and spirit and that he would make necessary administrative and logistical arrangements in this connection.
