The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) on Saturday defused a bomb outside the compound of JUI-F candidate Fazl Ali Haqqani in Swabi.
According to police, unidentified terrorists had planted explosive material in a pressure cooker outside the compound. A passerby informed police about the suspected object. The BDS personnel reached the scene and defused the bomb.
An official of the BDS said that around five kilogrammes of explosives were concealed in the presser cooker that could have caused large-scale destruction upon explosion.
Meanwhile, unidentified terrorists opened fire on a police van in the Katlang area of Mardan. However, no casualties were reported. The policemen were providing security to the anti-polio campaigners in the area. The attackers, however, managed to flee the scene.
