Pakistan Railways (PR) is expanding Margalla railway track up to the “9th Avenue” (Seven Up Crossing) in order to launch a regular shuttle service between the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad for commuters.
The Capital Development Authority will also set up a bus terminal at the “9th Avenue” to facilitate the commuters, said a press release issued on Friday. PR Chairman Arif Azeem unveiled the expansion plan at the Margalla Station Islamabad and said that formal construction work on the project would start during the current month.
Director General Operations Aftab Akbar, Divisional Superintendent Syed Munawar Shah, Divisional Executive Engineer Noor-ud-Din, Divisional Transportation Officer Zulqarnain Langria and Railways SP Ulfat Ali were also present at the occasion.
The Chairman directed the concerned officials to ensure timely completion of the project and said all-out efforts would be made for betterment of the Pakistan Railways.
With launching of the shuttle service, he said, a longstanding demand of the locals would be fulfilled and thousands of the citizens would benefit.
Briefing the Chairman, Munawar Shah said that the required material for expansion of the track has been shifted to the site so that the project could be completed at the earliest, in order to provide cheap and quality transport facilities to commuters traveling between the two cities. He added that the Margalla Railway Station is fully functional and Margalla Express is already operating from there.
