The Quetta Police on Friday registered criminal cases against four local and national daily newspapers under the Anti Terrorism Act for publishing statements of banned organisations.
The dailies include Jang, Express, Mashriq and Intakhab, while cases were also registered against the reporters, editors, publishers and printers of these newspapers.
An FIR was lodged on the complaint of the local police, which said the newspapers had violated the Anti Terrorism Act by publishing a statement of Jaish Al-Islam that claimed the responsibility for the killing of DSP Amir Mohammad Dasti and his security guard in Quetta on April 8.
In the FIR, a reference was of a notification issued by the Balochistan government was given in which it banned Jaish Al-Islam.
The police said publication of statements and giving publicity to such organisations was against the Anti Terrorism Act.
