The District Election Commission (DEC) will start imparting training from April 18 to 18,000 polling staff who will be deployed at 2,150 polling stations in seven national assembly and 14 provincial assembly constituencies of the region on the Election Day.
“A 10-day training programme will commence from April 18 under which 180,000 government employees will be given election training to ensure free, fair and transparent polls in the Rawalpindi district”, District Election Commissioner Zahid Subhani told APP here Friday.
He said the master trainers, who would educate and equip the polling staff with election related skills, have completed their training, adding “The staff will be provided all possible facilities to hold the elections in a smooth manner”.
He said five percent out of a total 18,000 trained staff including Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers, Polling Officers and supporting staff, would be kept reserved at Election Commission office to perform emergency duties.
The DEC has established 2,150 polling stations including 634 for males and 611 for females and 905 for combined. Similarly, there will be 5,162 polling booths – 2,744 for males and 2,418 for females. The number of registered voters in the district is around 26, 45,603.
