British Deputy HC, Russian CG meet Sindh CM

British Deputy High Commissioner (HC) Francis Campbell and Russian Federation Consul General (CG) Anfree V Demidu called on Sindh caretaker Chief Minister (CM) Justice (r) Zahid Qurban Alvi on Friday.
The caretaker CM in his separate meetings with both dignitaries, discussed the current situation in the country with regard to forthcoming polls as well as other matters of common interest.
Talking to Francis Campbell, during which British High Commission Additional Deputy Head of Mission Shaheryar Khan Niazi was also present, he said the caretaker set-up was committed to holding transparent polls in the province.
CM Zahid Alvi said that all out efforts were being made to achieve the objective.
He further said that measures were also being adopted to maintain peace in the province and to keep the law and order situation in check.
With regard to law and order situation of the metropolis, he said emergency measures have been adopted to combat criminal as well as terrorist elements.
“These steps are being taken within the limited resources at the disposal of the interim government,” he said.
The caretaker CM also said that Sindh IGP had also been directed to ensure that stringent security arrangements were put in place so as to streamline the entire polling procedure.
Furthermore, CM Zahid Alvi said that all required support was being extended to the Election Commission (EC) and efforts were underway to extend complete cooperation to the commission.
He also mentioned on the occasion that there existed a lot of room to improve educational conditions for students belonging to interior regions of the province.
The British deputy high commissioner told the caretaker CM that the British government, in collaboration with Sindh Education Trust, was attempting to introduce educational programmes for different cities and rural parts of the province.
“A fund worth Euros 1million have been earmarked for the purpose so that an improved quality of education could be imparted to children from less developed parts of Sindh,” he said.
Later in his meeting with Russian consul general, the caretaker CM shared with him details of the arrangements being made for the forthcoming general elections.
He said absolute commitment existed at every level of the system to strengthen democracy in the country.
