An election tribunal in Peshawar on Thursday summoned former president General (R) Pervez Musharraf on April 16 over an appeal filed against the acceptance of his nomination papers in NA-32 Chitral.
The appeal stated that since Musharraf’s nomination papers from other constituencies were rejected by returning officers, his papers from NA-32 should also be rejected.
Musharraf’s nomination papers for NA-139 Kasur II were rejected on the basis of six objections raised by Javed Kasuri and Kasur District Bar Association General Secretary Khalid Latif.
Mere hours after his nomination papers were rejected in Kasur, the former president was also compelled to pull out of NA-48 Islamabad due to a possible threat to his life. His nomination papers for NA-250 Karachi were also rejected on charges of violating the constitution and sacking top judges.
Musharraf expects support in Chitral due to development work conducted in the constituency, including the resumption of work on the Lowari tunnel, under his rule.
