COMSATS awards degrees to more than 500 candidates

 

COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) held its 51st convocation and awarded graduate and post-graduate degrees to more than 500 successful candidates on Tuesday.

Students secured BS degrees in disciplines of Bachelor of Science in Bio-informatics, Business Administration, Electrical Engineering and Architecture.

PhD degrees were awarded to five students in disciplines of Physics, eight in Mathematics, one in Bio Sciences and two in Management Sciences.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Dr Sania Nishtar was the chief guest, who awarded degrees and medals to successful candidates.

CIIT Rector Dr S M Junaid Zaidi (SI) addressed the gathering and said that knowledge acquirement and higher education were transforming every aspect of today’s world. IT institutions had been trusted to be the centre stage of academia, he said, adding that these institutions had the mandate to evolve a knowledge based socioeconomic culture in the country to help the nation to face the modern challenges of globalisation.

Graduate and post graduate students bagged campus medals, institute medals and chancellor’s gold medals with highest 3.3- 3.89 CGPA in their respective disciplines.

The medalists included Asad Javed, Muhammad Saad Nawaz, Sarhad Manzoor, Fareeha Amjad, Tayyaba Zaheer, Naimah Tehreem Qazi, Sidra Asdiq, Nayab Kiran, Faria Hassan, Sehrish Kanwal, Irum Javaid Siddiqui, Maha Aleem, Saima Noureen, Bushra Mumtaz, Hafsah Riaz, Bushra Resham, Muhammad Arsalan, Muhammad Jehangir Khan, Muhammad Haseeb, Inam Ullah, Hafiza  Maryam Aslam, Syed Zain Abbas and Maryam Mubarak for fall 2012.
