The Election Tribunal Rawalpindi branch on Wednesday overturned its earlier decision of the returning officer who had rejected the nomination papers filed by Ayaz Amir.
Furthermore, the Election Tribunal Multan bench today accepted nomination papers of Faisal Saleh Hayyat and Abid Imam.
Faisal Saleh Hayyat and Abid Iman are contesting elections against each other on NA-87 district Jhang. Earlier, Returning Officer (RO) Jhang had rejected the candidature of both over FIR registered against them for stealing water.
Faisal Saleh was also accused of Rs2.1 million bank defaults, however, his counsel presented clearance certificate before the two-member bench.
Amir’s nomination papers were rejected on the basis of certain articles written by him that the returning officer saw as being against the ideology of Pakistan.
Speaking to media after the decision, Amir’s counsel Salman Akram Raja lauded the decision saying it was a landmark ruling.

The idiot who rejected the papers of this renowned journalist should now apologize from the nation.
This is truly sad that an educated, capable and intellectual person who has the guts to call a spade a spade is treated in this manner. I have read every column that he has written . I have often written to him that Pakistan and India needs bunch of Ayaz Amir's.
Pakistan is very very fortunate have intellectuals like him. I wish him well.
