The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) says that nomination papers of 23,079 candidates have been accepted on general seats of the national and provincial assemblies for general elections 2013.
The ECP on Wednesday uploaded the statistics about the acceptance and rejection of the candidates’ nomination papers on its website.
According to the statistics, a total 27,075 candidates submitted their nomination papers on general seats. The returning officers rejected nomination papers of 3,996 candidates during the scrutiny process, including 1,209 candidates, for the National Assembly and 2,787 for provincial assemblies.
The statistics show that after the scrutiny, 128 candidates from Islamabad, 11,834 from Punjab, 5,765 from Sindh, 3,126 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 394 from FATA and 1,832 candidates from Balochistan have been left to contest in the forthcoming elections on general seats.
Similarly, nomination papers of 93 candidates for minority seats have been rejected and now 69 candidates will run on 10 reserved seats for minorities in the National Assembly.
Nomination papers of 105 candidates for reserved seats for women have been rejected, while 225 female candidates will contest on the reserved seats in the National Assembly. Similarly, 557 female candidates will contest election on reserved seats in the provincial assemblies after nomination papers of 269 candidates were rejected during scrutiny process.
