The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday barred Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Ali Arshad Hakeem from performing his function. A petition was filed in the IHC whereby the petitioner had taken the plea that Hakeem’s appointment was not made as per rules and regulations. The post of chairman FBR is advertised in the newspaper but it was not done so in this case and this way norms of merit were overlooked. The petitioner further contended that a summary comprising three names is required to be sent to the Prime Minister in connection with the appointment of chairman FBR but it was not sent and only the name of Ali Arshad Hakeem was forwarded. Justice Shaukat Aziz of IHC cancelled the notification on appointment of Ali Arshad Hakim as chairman FBR and barred him from performing his duties. Meanwhile, three names are under consideration for the appointment of chairman Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR), sources said. According to official sources, Shahid Rahim Sheikh of Customs Group, Ansar Javed of Income Tax group and Abdul Samad of Income Tax group are being considered to replace Hakeem.

  1. I am sure his previous appointment as head of NADRA too "was not made as per rules and regulation". Very close with Zardari and Brigadier Billa,I am sure he worked hard to hand out fake national ID cards in PPP areas. He used to run a small company in Lahore and an accounting services company in UK (dual citizen?). Playing the "anti-status quo" card, he is anything but. His dad was a Major General, he himself got into the civil service and used his contacts in both to open doors for him when he started his own business as contracts were guaranteed.
