Gas pipeline explosion in Uch increases electricity shortfall

An 18-inch Sui gas pipeline was blown up in the early hours of Sunday in the Uch area of Balochistan by unknown miscreants, local media reported.
According to reports, the explosion suspended gas supply to the Uch power plant in Balochistan causing a reduction of more than 525 MW of power generation.
As a result, electricity supply in many areas in Lahore and Punjab has been suspended.
Officials said repair work has been initiated and complete restoration could take around two days.
Just two days ago, a gas pipeline explosion in Quetta, reduced 150 MW of power generation due to which Habibullah Coastal Power and Sheikh Munda Power Houses remain closed. A WAPDA spokesman said the national grid was not receiving power supply of 150MW from Habibullah Coastal Power and Shaikh Munda Power House.
The overall electricity shortage in the country has exceeded 5,000 MW.
