Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal, arriving in Quetta for the first time in years, said steps taken by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure impartial elections are useless in Balochistan unless killings and kidnappings are not put to a stop.
“While the ECP is busy in verifying and scrutinising nomination papers all over Pakistan, many areas in Balochistan remain no-go areas and Baloch are busy verifying bodies of their family members and loved ones,” he said. He further said he was not convinced that the government and establishment were working for a real election. “If they do not mend their ways, they will look like idiots,” he said. Mengal insisted people were still being abducted and killed in different areas of Balochistan.
Mengal returned to Pakistan from Dubai on 25th March, 2013 and decided to contest the May 11 elections.
He is expected to address a public gathering in Quetta soon.
