Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) completed initial scrutiny of nomination papers filed by all candidates for the upcoming general election on Sunday. However, the election watchdog reserved with itself the right to disqualify any candidate found of having misrepresented, even after elections.
The ECP directed National Accountability Bureau (NAB), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to post all details of candidates on their websites within two days.
Nomination papers were sent back to the returning officers after scrutiny.
ECP’s net for filtering out candidates was largely built on articles 62 and 63 of the constitution, tax evaders and bank defaulters.
With initial scrutiny of papers complete, the ECP on Sunday also said the scrutiny of declarations made by candidates in their nomination papers would continue- even after elections. Those who, even at a later date, are found to have misrepresented would be declared disqualified, said ECP Additional Secretary Afzal Khan, while addressing media personnel.
That`s great
Well done ECP. However the scrutiny should not have been based on articles 62 and 63; it should have been based on corruption, nepotism, misuse of power and non payment of taxes and government dues.
It seem that ECP has really initiated the process of breaking the iceburg of corruption in Pakistan for which they really deserve applaud and appreciation from the entire nation.
I still like to know how the Sharif brothers got off so easily and quickly.
Unless the big fishes those who had huge loans written off are disqualified the scrutiny by ECP is an ehe wash.
ECP and ROs and Cief Minister Punjab have succumbed to x mafia lobby. They are too filthly rich and poweful to be be kept out of the political process. So the vicious circle is never going to break. No hope for Pakistan.
