Allama Jafri re-elected general secretary of MWM

Over 500 representatives from 80 districts in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir elected Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafari as the secretary general of Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), the leading Shiite representative organization of Pakistan, on Sunday.

The two-day convention of MWM was held in Islamabad over the weekend to finalize the party’s electoral strategy and to elect the new secretary general. Delegates from Sindh, Punjab, Khyber-Pukhtoonkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir elected Jafri to the top spot for the second time running.

In his address to the participants, the re-elected secretary general vowed to remain steadfast in face of the challenges facing his community. He said that MWM represents the downtrodden of the country and would struggle to protect the nation from foreign conspirators.
