Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday rubbished speculation regarding alleged plans of contesting elections in Sindh as an independent candidate.
“This is nonsense,” the PTI leader told a private TV channel. “I am an elected vice chairman from PTI, and I would never contest elections independently.”
The buzz started on social media after Qureshi met with Pakistan Muslim League – Functional (PML-F) chief Pir Sibgatullah Rashididi (Pir Pagara) in the afternoon.
However, despite his refusal, the social networking website, Twitter was full of speculation. Omar Warraich, a reporter with the Times magazine for Pakistan, tweeted: “I feel sorry for PTI supporters. They elected Shah Mahmood their vice-president and now he’s standing as an independent.”
A reporter with Jang Group, Umer Cheema tweeted that: “Javed Hashmi sb must be excited to hear Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s decision. After all they have been rivaling each other.”
Earlier in the day, PTI chief Imran Khan did not come clean on the speculation and gave quite a vague response to a question on Qureshi contesting the elections as an independent candidate.
“Whether he contests as an independent or on the party ticket, he (SMQ) will remain the PTI vice chairman. And the seat will be ours regardless.”
Qureshi is slated to contest elections from Umar Kot and Tharparkar in Sindh.

  1. If he is PTI then he has to contest elections under the banner of PTI, what benefit is there for PTI for their vice chairman to contest independently, either it's the press following someone elses line, or it's a PTI dodge we haven't picked up yet. I don't personally think, he will leave PTI, if he does at this critical juncture, then he was a PPPPML mole, so good riddence to him.

    • PTI leaders change their mind every 24 Hrs. He gave press conference that he would never run as independent. Now he is running as independent.

If these leaders cannot keep their for less the 24 Hrs. how do you expect them to keep their words post election.

This shows there is complete lack of leadership within PTI.

  2. PTI is a rising tsunami…ready to clean pakistan….all other political parties seem to be very insecure about PTI's rising popularity.

PTI's opponents will spread rumors to damage it, but it will only make the party stronger.
Pakistanis now know what they want and who they will vote for in one month.

  4. Nothing has changed yet, all leadership is still present and will be inshallah, as everyone knows, PTI is the only option and the way forward for Pakistan.
