Former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) provincial government had made all out efforts to give due rights to women.
Addressing a group of PML-N women wing members and former women parliamentarians, he said the Punjab government’s women package was not only praised in Pakistan but was also appreciated abroad.
He further said that under the women’s package, no application was required to be submitted by family of a deceased to divide inheritance, and this step was taken to ensure that women received their due share in inheritances.
The former Punjab chief minister also said that government holdings, including land and houses transferred to people, made both the husband and wife equal owners of such properties, while adding that it was a historical step as no other government had ever done so in the country.
The PML-N’s government raised women quota in all government organisations by 33% and the PML-N received more applications for women reserved seats than any other political party, he claimed.
