Under scrutiny: Nawaz’s nomination papers

According to the nomination papers filed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif for NA-120, the PML-N leader lives in his mother’s house and his profession is politics and agriculture.

According to a news report by a local newspaper, his educational qualification is BA. He declared that three references, that is, No 11 of 2001 (previously numbered as ACR No 8 of 2000), 5 of 2000 and 7 of 2000 are pending against him in the Accountability Court-IV, Rawalpindi.

In 2012, Nawaz Sharif paid Rs 2,449,556 as income tax on an income of Rs 12,407,488. In the preceding year, he shelled out Rs 2,513,654 as tax on an income of Rs 10,607,488. In 2010, he paid Rs 2,012,979 tax on an income of Rs9,707,988.

Similarly, the PML-N chief paid Rs1,233,747 as agricultural income tax on such income of Rs8,374,982 from a land holding of 1707 Kanals in 2012.

In the previous year, he gave Rs738,750 as agricultural income tax on an income of Rs5,075,000 on a land holding of 934 Kanals, and in 2010 he paid Rs757,500 as tax on an income of Rs5,200,000 on a land holding of 934 Kanals.

As on June 30, 2012, Nawaz Sharif’s net assets came to Rs261,659,827 compared to Rs166,049,542 of the previous year’s, registering an increase of Rs95,610,285.

“Served the people of Punjab as chief minister, served the people of Pakistan as prime minister” is what Nawaz Sharif noted in a column of the candidacy forms which asked: If you have been elected member of the National Assembly/provincial assembly what according to you was the single most important contribution you have made for the benefit of your constituency (attach detail, if any).

He wrote that he paid Rs50,000 to the PML-N for application for party ticket. He holds national identity card number 35201-5369836-7 and his national tax number is 0667649-9.

Nawaz Sharif declared in his wealth statement that he had a business capital of Rs10,000 in Abbas Company, had shares worth Rs16,000,000 in Chaudhry Sugar Mills, and owned a property at 135 Upper Mall Lahore valued at 900,000.

His liabilities and advances include Rs84,485 of Abbas Company and Rs4,511563 of Chaudhry Sugar Mills. He owns a 1991 Model Mercedes Benz valued at Rs656,799 and Tractor worth Rs970,812.

He has Rs162,726,557 balance in five bank accounts in Lahore. He has net assets of Rs244,995,207 and annual personal expenses of Rs24,096,786.

His spouse Kalsoom Nawaz’s wealth statement is also attached with the nomination papers. She has a net wealth of Rs16,664,620, a liability of Rs500,000 and annual personal expenses of Rs15,035. She owns a bungalow at Hall RoadLahore valued at Rs7,560,00, has shares in Chaudhry Sugar Mills valuing Rs6,126,720; in Hamza Spinning Mills worth Rs481,000; in Muhammad Buksh Textile Mills valuing Rs1,021,000 and in Kalsoom Textile Mills worth Rs50,000.

Kalsoom Nawaz has loans and advances of Rs2,750,000 and jewelry worth Rs100,000. She has an amount of Rs74,900 as bank balance and cash in hand. Her daughter, Asma Ali Dar, has a liability of Rs500,000.
