Two security personnel killed in Khyber Agency

At least four persons including two security personnel and two volunteers were killed in an attack by militants near Landi Kotal, Khyber Agency on Friday.
An official said two militants were later killed in retaliatory action, adding that security forces’ action continued in the area.
Per details, security forces, with support of volunteers from a tribal peace group initiated a drive against suspected militants in the outskirts of Landi Kotal. In the mean time, militants ambushed the raiding party killing four and injuring several others.
Later, security forces initiated retaliatory action against militants and killed two of them.
Landi Kotal lies besides the Pakistan-Afghanistan Highway close to the Torkham entry point. Militants taking shelter in the area often attack NATO supply vehicles. Militants’ presence in Tirrah Valley has caused a large number of tribal families to move to Peshawar and surrounding areas due to internal clashes amongst the outfits.
Security forces are also engaged in aerial strikes against militants in the inaccessible Tirrah Valley. The official on Friday claimed 10 militants had been killed and several hideouts had been destroyed in these strikes.
