The Crime Investigation Department’s (CID) Investigation Wing on Tuesday arrested two suspects from Quaidabad for their alleged involvement in killings and extortion under the guise of having links with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The police also recovered weapons, hand grenades and ammunition.
SSP Mazhar Mashwani said that during investigations regarding target killings and other heinous crimes, an informant tipped them about the whereabouts of the said criminals.
A team resultantly raided their hideout in Sherpao Colony. During the encounter, Sher Zaman and Murad Ali alias Hitachi were apprehended.
Three pistols including a 9mm pistol, two hand grenades including a rifle hand grenade, ammunition and a motorcycle were also recovered.
Initial investigations revealed that the two suspects had escaped in an injured condition, while their accomplice Zakaria alias Commando was killed in a police encounter in Quaidabad a few months back.
SSP Mashwani said the accused claimed to be TTP members to threaten residents and extort money from traders in Quaidabad and other adjoining areas. They had earlier attacked a general store in Quaidabad after its owner Naveed refused to pay them protection money.In the firing incident, Naveed and his son were injured, while one of their own associates, Rahim, was killed.
The men were also arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Police in drug peddling cases and were absconding from court. Several FIRs were lodged by the Quaidabad police against the accused in murder, attempted murder and extortion cases.
