He was in school when he would save up his paltry pocket money to buy albums released by a certain Armando Perez. Little did DJ Girish know that someday he would be opening for the musician who later became famous the world over as Pitbull. Happy to have been signed up as the official DJ for Team Kolkata second time on the trot, Girish is looking forward to the inaugural gala on April 2 at Salt Lake Stadium. “It would be a mix of Bollywood and international tracks. If authorities permit, I might do a remix of the team anthem, Korbo, lorbo, jeetbo re,” he says. But being on the field is different from playing within the cool confines of a nightclub, the DJ tells us. “Last year, Team Kolkata was playing at Eden Gardens when the game was stopped for 40 minutes because of the wind. Keeping the audience glued to their seats in such times is tough. Also, when your team is losing, you have to do your best to pep up the mood of the masses.” About opening for Pitbull, Girish says, “I’m a huge fan from my school days. I love his track Give me everything. His is perhaps the biggest international act that Kolkata will see in a decade.”
